GETTING HERE EXERCISE
Let’s take a moment to settle in, to get here. So often we find ourselves rushing to relax.
I invite you to close your eyes if that’s comfortable for
you. Notice that you traveled here to
Unity’s Meditation group this evening. You
are sitting in a circle with others.
Notice the chair that is holding you, how your body feels, your feet on
the floor. Hear the sounds in the room.
Bring your gentle awareness to the fact that you are
breathing. On the next inhale and
exhale, you may choose to take a deeper, longer breath in and slowing fully
exhale. Notice how the air feels as it
enters your nostrils. You may even give
yourself permission to make sound and sigh on the next out breath. When you ‘sigh’ your shoulders release tension
and drop down. It is impossible for your
shoulders to have a relationship with your ears when you sigh.
Noticing again the sounds of the room around you. Feeling the chair beneath you, your feet on
the floor. Thanking yourself for taking
this time just for you. Allowing your
lips to begin to curl up at the corners into a ‘smile’. Science shows that feel good chemicals are
released into the body when we smile… even a phony smile works.
And when you are ready, you can slowly open your eyes and
look around making connection with others.
